Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, developed by Rare. It was a nice surprise to see the bear and bird on a handheld, arriving a few years after their Nintendo 64 adventures and giving players a portable dose of their world. This was a time when getting a competent 3D platformer on the GBA felt like a real achievement, and this game aimed to deliver that familiar style in a smaller package.

You control Banjo directly, with Kazooie riding in his backpack to provide most of your special moves. The main goal is straightforward: stop Gruntilda's past self from altering history. You explore interconnected areas screen by screen, jumping across platforms and defeating enemies with peck attacks and a short range roll. A big part of the game is collecting Jiggies to progress and Mumbo Tokens to unlock transformations, which let you temporarily turn into new forms like a tank to solve specific puzzles. The pacing is generally steady, though some later platforming sections can be tricky to navigate. It feels like a condensed version of the console experience, capturing the core of running, jumping, and collecting in a pocket-sized adventure.
