About Backyard Skateboarding
I picked up Backyard Skateboarding for the Game Boy Advance back in 2004, a time when the handheld was full of licensed and quirky sports titles. It was published by Atari, and it fit right in with that era's mix of kid-friendly themes and portable gaming. You weren't getting a simulation; it was a cartoon skateboarding adventure built for short sessions.
You control a customizable kid skater, moving through interconnected, screen-by-screen backyards. The main goal is to explore these areas, find keys to unlock new zones, and complete specific trick challenges for each neighbor. Your main actions are performing ollies and grinds to navigate the environment, while collecting items like soda cans and newspapers increases your score.
