Backyard Baseball 2006 came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2005, developed by Humongous Entertainment. It was part of that wave of kid friendly sports games on the handheld, sitting alongside other licensed titles and arcade style adaptations. You did not need a real baseball sim; this was for quick, accessible play.
You control a team of kids, choosing your roster from a large cast of characters before heading to the field. The main goal is to win baseball games, either in a single match or through a full season mode. Signature mechanics include the power up system, where special abilities can be activated during batting or pitching to give you an edge, and the simplified fielding that often automatically moves your player toward the ball. The pacing is brisk, with innings moving quickly, and the difficulty stays fairly gentle, making it easy to pick up.
