It was developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega, which felt like a solid pairing for a handheld action game during that era. The GBA library was full of licensed titles, but this one stood out because it was based on Osamu Tezuka's creation, not just another cartoon adaptation.

You control Astro Boy himself, flying and punching your way through side scrolling stages. The main goal is straightforward: fight through each level, defeat the boss, and stop the various mechanical menaces. Your signature moves are your arm mounted machine guns and a powerful finger laser, which you use to clear the screen of robots and airborne enemies. You also collect bolts scattered throughout the stages to upgrade your weapons between levels. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike during some of the boss encounters, demanding quick reflexes. It feels like a classic, energetic arcade style brawler translated neatly to a portable screen.
