Asteroids On GBC came out in 1999 for the Game Boy Color, developed by Syrox Developments. It was part of that wave of arcade revivals on handhelds, a time when you could carry a slice of the arcade in your pocket. This version tried to fit the vast black and white vector space of the original into a small, color screen.

You control a small triangular ship, rotating and thrusting through a wraparound field filled with drifting, geometric rocks. Your main objective is to survive by clearing each screen of asteroids; you shoot them into smaller, faster moving pieces until they vanish completely. Signature mechanics include the hyperspace jump, a risky teleport to a random screen location, and the occasional appearance of a UFO that shoots back at you. The pacing is relentless; the screen gets crowded quickly, and the controls require a careful touch to avoid drifting into debris. It feels like a tense, solitary battle against an indifferent universe, where every shot and dodge matters.
