About Asterix & Obelix Xxl
I first played Asterix & Obelix XXL on the Game Boy Advance back in 2004, when Atari was publishing a lot of licensed titles for the handheld. It came out during that period when you could find a game for almost any popular cartoon or movie, and this one was a solid beat 'em up that captured the look of the comics. You control Asterix and Obelix, the famous Gauls, as they travel through different themed levels based on locations from the stories.
You switch between the two characters on the fly; Asterix is quick and uses his sword, while Obelix is slow but can punch enemies and smash obstacles. The main goal is to fight through Romans, find keys, and solve simple puzzles to advance screen by screen. You explore each area thoroughly, collecting golden laurel wreaths and power ups hidden in breakable objects. The pacing is straightforward, and the difficulty feels fair, with enemy patterns that are easy to learn after a few tries. It feels satisfying to clear a screen of Romans and move on to the next.
