This one's a classic Sega Master System gem—Asterix and the Secret Mission. You play as the iconic Gaulish warrior (or his buddy Obelix if you go for 2-player), smashing through Roman camps, dodging spears, and chugging magic potion for that sweet temporary invincibility. The sprites are chunky in that charming 8-bit way, and the levels throw everything at you: collapsing bridges, sneaky traps, even a weirdly intense chariot race section.

First time I played, I got wrecked by the boar hunting minigame—turns out timing those spear throws takes practice. The password system’s a lifesaver though, since some later stages get brutal. If you grew up with Asterix comics, seeing all the little references (like Getafix’s hut or the fish-slapping Romans) is a nice touch.

It’s not the deepest platformer, but there’s something satisfying about clobbering legionnaires with a giant menhir.
