Aspetra is a fantasy role playing game released in 1996 for the MS-Dos platform. Developed and published by Zonarware, it is a Japanese style RPG presented from a third person perspective. The narrative begins with the hero, who claims to be sent by the mage Eldirood, being apprehended after emerging from a cloud. This encounter is interrupted by an attack on a nearby village, prompting the hero to offer help after discovering the village elder has been kidnapped, setting the stage for a journey to confront a larger threat.

Players control the hero as they travel across the land, exploring wilderness areas and navigating dungeons. The journey is structured around visiting towns and completing objectives that advance the story. In towns, the player can visit an inn to fully restore the party's health, converse with non player characters, and visit shops to buy or sell items and equipment. Weapons, shields, and rings can be acquired to increase damage output, physical defense, and magic defense respectively, with such gear also found in treasure chests scattered throughout the world.

Gameplay involves frequent random encounters with groups of one to five enemies of a single type. Combat is semi turn based, where characters and monsters act in sequence; a player must wait for their turn to act, but monsters will continue to take turns if the player delays. In battle, options include attacking with equipped weapons, using items, or attempting to flee. As the hero progresses, they can learn to use magic spells. Victory in combat grants coins and experience points, with enough experience leading to a level up that fully heals the hero and improves their character statistics.
