About Army Men (usa, Europe) (en,fr,de)
Army Men for the Game Boy Color came out in 2000, published by The 3DO Company. It was part of that wave of late-era Game Boy Color titles that tried to bring more complex, console-like action to the handheld. You play as Sarge, the leader of the Green Army, fighting against the Tan Army in a war that spills from suburban backyards into kitchen countertops.
You control Sarge from an overhead view, moving screen by screen through different environments like sandboxes and picnic tables. Your main goal is to complete missions, which usually involve finding a key item or defeating all Tan soldiers in an area. The core mechanics are straightforward: you use a machine gun for most combat, and you can find temporary power-ups like a flamethrower or grenade launcher. You also drive vehicles, such as a jeep or a helicopter, to traverse larger maps or attack from a different angle. The game can be difficult, with enemies swarming you from all sides and limited health pickups, requiring careful movement. It feels like a small-scale, portable war where every corner of a familiar room becomes a potential battlefield.
