Army Men on Game Boy Color is one of those weirdly satisfying little strategy games where you control a squad of plastic soldiers in tiny, toy-sized battlefields. At first glance, it seems simple—just move your guys around and shoot the enemy—but the terrain actually matters. You’ll crawl under tables, dodge toy cars, and use soda cans for cover like some kind of backyard general.
The missions start easy (rescue a stranded soldier, take out a few enemies) but quickly ramp up into full-on tactical skirmishes. I remember getting stuck on this one level where you have to flank a machine gun nest behind a cereal box—took me way too many tries to figure out the right approach. The top-down view works surprisingly well, even on the tiny GBC screen, and there’s something weirdly charming about the chunky pixel art for something so small-scale.
If you ever staged battles with green army men as a kid, this game nails that feeling of turning household junk into a warzone. Just don’t expect deep strategy—it’s more about quick thinking and not letting your guys get melted by flamethrowers.
