Arle no Bouken: Mahou no Jewel is this weird little Game Boy Color RPG where you take Arle from Puyo Puyo and throw her into a monster-collecting adventure. It’s got that classic late-90s handheld RPG vibe—simple turn-based battles, random encounters, and a surprisingly decent variety of creatures to recruit. The sprites are charmingly chunky, and the music’s got that nostalgic bleep-bloop quality.
At first, it feels like a stripped-down Pokémon clone, but there’s some fun in seeing Puyo Puyo characters reimagined as RPG party members. The translation’s in Japanese, so unless you’re fluent or playing with a guide, expect a lot of menu guessing. Still, if you dig obscure GBC RPGs, it’s a neat curiosity. Just don’t go in expecting Puyo Puyo’s puzzle action.
