I first played Ariel: The Little Mermaid on the Sega Master System, a game Tec Toy released in Brazil. It came out during a time when many licensed games were simple platformers, and this one fit right into that category on the 8-bit system.
You control Ariel, swimming through side-scrolling underwater stages. Your main goal is to rescue your animal friends from an evil sea witch. You attack enemies by firing bubbles from a seashell wand; these bubbles trap foes, and you can then pop them for points. The game involves exploring each stage, searching for hidden items like treasure chests and collectible pearls. The pacing is generally relaxed, though some enemy patterns require quick reactions.
