About Archer Maclean's 3d Pool (u)(rising Sun)
Archer Maclean's 3D Pool came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2006, published by Rising Sun. It was a late release for the system, arriving when many players were already looking at the Nintendo DS. The game brought a solid pool simulation to a handheld, which felt like a small technical achievement at the time.
You control the cue stick, aiming and setting the power for each shot. The main goal is to pocket balls according to the rules of either eight-ball or nine-ball, clearing the table to win. Two mechanics define the experience: a behind-the-cue perspective that gives a good sense of the table's layout, and a power meter that requires precise timing to execute a clean shot. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the physics feel surprisingly weighty for the hardware, making missed shots genuinely frustrating. It feels like a thoughtful, portable version of a barroom game.
