Okay, so Antz: Extreme Racing is exactly what it sounds like—you’re racing ants. Tiny, six-legged speed demons on the Game Boy Advance. It’s weirdly fun, though. You pick from the movie characters (Z and Bala are my go-tos), and then you’re off, weaving through tunnels and dodging stuff like pebbles and water droplets that are basically boulders and lakes to an ant.
The tracks are surprisingly detailed for a GBA game—twisty dirt paths, leaf shortcuts, even some underground sections where you’re dodging roots. The controls are simple—just accelerate and drift—but the later races get pretty chaotic. I kept slamming into spiderwebs like an idiot at first.
Multiplayer’s where it shines. Racing against a friend on the same cartridge feels like a tiny, frantic Mario Kart knockoff, but with more mandibles. Graphics hold up, too—bright colors, smooth animation. Not bad for a licensed game from 2001.
If you’ve got a soft spot for weird GBA racers, this one’s worth a few laps.
