Okay, so Animorphs on Game Boy Color—this is the one that actually got it right. The other two games kinda fumbled, but this one? It actually feels like playing through the books. You’ve got the whole crew—Jake, Rachel, Marco, Cassie, Tobias—and the morphing system is weirdly satisfying, like a stripped-down Pokémon but with more… well, alien DNA theft.
Combat’s turn-based, and yeah, it’s familiar if you’ve played any RPG from that era, but the morphs add a fun twist. Need to sneak past a guard? Turn into a cockroach. Want to wreck something? Hello, grizzly bear. It’s janky in that late-90s handheld way, but it’s got charm. Also, the fact that it’s in five languages is just a weird little bonus.
If you’re an Animorphs fan, this is probably the closest you’ll get to a decent adaptation. Just don’t expect a masterpiece—it’s a solid B-tier RPG with some nostalgic kick.
