Amberstar is a role-playing game released in 1992 for MS-DOS. Developed and published by Thalion Software GmbH, it is a fantasy dungeon crawler featuring turn-based combat. The narrative follows an adventurer from Twinlake who must gather the thirteen pieces of a powerful artifact called the Amberstar to stop the sorcerer Marmion from freeing the corrupted Lord Tarbos.

The player begins by creating a single protagonist with randomized attributes. This character can later be joined by additional companions found throughout the world, forming a party of up to six members. The game employs a top-down perspective for overworld travel and switches to a first-person view for navigating cities and dungeons. Progression involves exploring the land of Lyramion, which is largely open from the start, completing quests, and recruiting party members. Characters can be promoted into specific classes such as fighter, mage, or thief at various guilds, which affects their development and equipment options. When characters gain levels, the player can direct their attribute training at designated locations.

Combat is turn-based and initiated at specific points in the overworld or upon encountering visible enemies in dungeons. Battles take place on a small grid shown in an overhead view, allowing for tactical movement and a selection of offensive and defensive actions, including a wide array of spells. Exploration is supported by various transportation methods, such as horses for crossing shallow water and boats for sailing. The game features a conversation system with non-player characters, side quests, an auto-mapping function in towns, and a day-night cycle that influences world activity. Players must manage rations for camping to restore health, and progress is saved in a single, automatically overwritten slot.
