About Altered Beast - Guardian Of The Realms (e)(trashman)
Altered Beast: Guardian of the Realms came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, published by THQ. It was one of many attempts to bring Sega's older arcade and console properties to the handheld, arriving in an era when developers were still figuring out how to translate those kinds of action games to the smaller screen.
You control a centurion resurrected to battle the sorcerer Arcanon. The main goal is to fight through side-scrolling levels, defeating monsters to collect spirit balls. After gathering three of these, you transform into a powerful beast like a werewolf or dragon, each with its own unique attacks. The game mixes this transformation system with exploration across different themed worlds, but the pacing can feel slow and the difficulty uneven. It feels like a straightforward brawler that occasionally surprises you with a burst of power when you change form.
