If you're into old-school survival horror, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare on Game Boy Color is a weird little gem. You pick between Aline (an archaeologist) or Edward (a detective) and get dumped on Shadow Island, which is exactly as cheerful as it sounds. The pixelated darkness somehow still manages to creep you out—especially when you realize your flashlight batteries won't last forever.
Combat's clunky in that classic early-2000s way, but honestly, half the time you're better off running anyway. The puzzles are what stuck with me—some make you flip between characters to progress, which was pretty clever for a GBC title. Just don't expect tank controls; this one actually lets you move diagonally, thank god.
It's janky, atmospheric, and weirdly ambitious for a handheld horror game. Perfect for late-night play with headphones.
