About Aliens - Thanatos Encounter (usa, Europe)
Aliens: Thanatos Encounter came out for the Game Boy Color in 2001, published by THQ. It was part of that late wave of games for the handheld, arriving when developers were really pushing the limits of the hardware. You control Corporal A. Reed, a colonial marine sent to investigate a distress signal from a research facility on the moon Thanatos. The place is, predictably, overrun by xenomorphs.
You guide Reed through the facility's rooms, which are presented screen by screen. Your main goal is to survive, find keycards to unlock new areas, and ultimately destroy the alien hive. The game uses a top-down perspective, and you have a limited supply of ammunition for your pulse rifle and flamethrower. You need to manage your ammo carefully, switching between weapons and sometimes just avoiding fights to conserve resources. The pacing is tense, as aliens can swarm you quickly, and the difficulty is unforgiving; a few hits will kill you, and you have limited continues. Playing it feels like a constant, careful struggle against overwhelming numbers in tight, claustrophobic corridors.
