Alien Storm is one of those weird, janky Sega beat-em-ups that somehow works despite itself. You pick from three characters—a dude with a flamethrower, a cyborg cop, and a woman with a plasma whip—and just start blasting aliens through city streets. It’s got that same arcadey feel as Golden Axe, but with more sci-fi nonsense like mutant blobs and UFOs dropping goons on you.

The Master System version is… well, it’s definitely a port. The sprites are chunkier, the action’s a little slower, but it still has that satisfying crunch when you torch a whole wave of aliens at once. The stages switch between side-scrolling brawling and first-person shooting gallery bits, which keeps it from feeling too repetitive. Not Sega’s best, but if you’re into retro beat-em-ups, it’s got charm.
