Alex Kidd - High-tech World (usa, Europe) Game

Alex Kidd - High-Tech World is one of those weird, charming Sega Master System games that doesn’t quite play like anything else. You start off in this bizarre mix of adventure and platforming—Alex isn’t just jumping on enemies this time, he’s running around towns talking to NPCs, buying items (including, yes, video games), and solving little puzzles. The platforming sections feel classic Alex Kidd—tight controls, weird enemies, and that signature rock-paper-scissors boss fight gimmick. But then you’ll hit a shop and suddenly it’s like a JRPG-lite moment where you’re figuring out what to spend your cash on.
It’s janky in that late-’80s Sega way, but there’s something oddly compelling about how it mashes genres together. The music’s catchy, the sprite work’s colorful, and the whole thing just oozes that era’s experimental energy. If you’re into retro oddities, this one’s a fun little time capsule.
