Alex Kidd - High-tech World Game

Alright, so Alex Kidd - High-Tech World is one of those weirdly charming Sega Master System games that feels like it couldn’t decide if it wanted to be a platformer or an adventure puzzler—so it just did both. You start off in this bizarre mashup of ancient temples and sci-fi tech, jumping between floating platforms one minute and solving weird little item puzzles the next.
It’s got that classic Alex Kidd jank—like, sometimes the controls feel a little stiff, but you get used to it after a few deaths. The real fun is figuring out how to use the gadgets you find (some of them make zero sense at first, but hey, trial and error). And yeah, the 8-bit aesthetic is pure nostalgia, especially if you grew up with that crunchy Sega sound chip.
Not gonna lie, it’s not the smoothest game in the series, but there’s something oddly satisfying about brute-forcing your way through its quirks. If you’re into retro oddities, this one’s worth a play—just maybe keep a walkthrough handy for the weirder puzzles.
