About Adventures Of Elmo In Grouchland, The (europe)
I played the European Game Boy Color release of The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, which came out in 2000. It was published by NewKidCo, and it fits right in with the kind of licensed platformers that were common on the handheld at the time. You don't see many people talking about it now, but it was there on the shelf alongside other cartoon and movie tie-ins.
You control Elmo, and your goal is to recover his stolen blue blanket from the grumpy Huxley in Grouchland. The game is a side-scrolling platformer where you walk and jump across different themed levels. You collect items like stars and letters, and you can use a special sneeze attack to defeat enemies or activate certain objects. The levels are broken into distinct screens, and you often need to find keys to unlock new areas. The pacing is fairly slow, which makes it accessible for younger players, but some sections can be tricky with precise jumps. Playing it feels like a straightforward, colorful trip through a simplified version of the movie's world.
