I picked up 3-D Ultra Pinball: Thrillride for the Game Boy Color back when it was new, a release from Sierra On-Line and developer Dynamix. It was one of those games that tried to push the hardware a bit, offering a more visually complex pinball experience than the simple black and white tables we were used to on earlier portables.

You control the flippers, of course, trying to keep the ball in play across three different themed tables: a spooky haunted house, a wild amusement park, and a treacherous mountain climb. The main goal is to score as many points as possible by hitting ramps, targets, and spinners, but each table has its own multi-ball modes and secret passages to unlock. The game scrolls vertically, so you have to watch the ball travel between different levels of the table, which keeps you on your toes. It can get pretty fast and unforgiving; a missed shot often sends the ball straight down the middle. Playing it feels like a constant, frantic race to keep the action going before that final drain.
