About 2 In 1 - Shrek 2 & Shark Tale (e)(independent)
I picked up this Game Boy Advance cartridge, 2 In 1 - Shrek 2 & Shark Tale, a while back. It was released in 2004, I think, and Activision published it. It's one of those dual-game carts that were pretty common on the GBA, bundling two movie tie-ins together. You get a platformer based on Shrek 2 and an underwater adventure based on Shark Tale, all on one chip. It was a straightforward way to get two games for the price of one during that era of handheld gaming.
In the Shrek 2 half, you control Shrek, and sometimes other characters like Donkey or Puss in Boots, through side-scrolling levels. You mostly run, jump on platforms, and hit enemies with a basic sword swing. The goal is to get through each stage, from the swamp to Far Far Away, fighting guards and collecting items. The Shark Tale portion switches things up; you play as Oscar the fish, navigating underwater areas. You swim around, avoid predators, and complete tasks like collecting shells or pearls. Both games use a lives system, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in certain sections, especially during boss fights. The experience feels like a condensed version of each film's story, moving you from one set piece to the next without much downtime. Playing it is a simple, sometimes repetitive, dive into early 2000s licensed games.
