About 2 In 1 - Columns & Chu Chu Rocket (e)(rising Sun)
I picked up 2 In 1 - Columns & Chu Chu Rocket for the Game Boy Advance. It was a budget release, published by Rising Sun, that bundled two distinct Sega puzzle games into a single cartridge. This was a common practice for the platform, offering a lot of gameplay for a low price, and it felt like a direct portal to that era of portable gaming.
In Columns, you control falling gem trios, rotating them to create horizontal, vertical, or diagonal lines of three or more matching colors to make them vanish. The main objective is to prevent the screen from filling, with the challenge steadily increasing as the gems fall faster. Chu Chu Rocket has you guiding mice to their rocket escape pods while avoiding cats. You do this by placing directional arrows on a grid before each stage begins, plotting a safe path for all the mice in a single, frantic pre-action phase. The pacing is quick and often chaotic, demanding fast visual planning. It feels like a tense, miniature logistics puzzle where a single misplaced arrow can doom your entire plan.
