About 2 In 1 - Castlevania Double Pack (u)(trashman)

I picked up the 2 In 1 Castlevania Double Pack for the Game Boy Advance back when Konami was releasing these compilations. It was a solid way to get two substantial games on one cartridge during the GBA's lifespan, bundling Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. This was a period where handhelds were really delivering deep, console-like adventures, and this pack fit right in.

In Harmony of Dissonance, you control Juste Belmont, a vampire hunter who whips his way through a sprawling, haunted castle to rescue his friend. Your main goal is to explore the castle room by room, unlocking new areas as you find abilities like the double jump or slide. Combat involves your primary whip and secondary weapons like axes or holy water, used against a bestiary of gothic monsters. Aria of Sorrow shifts the focus to Soma Cruz, a high school student drawn into Dracula's castle. Instead of a whip, you fight with swords and spears, but the key mechanic is the Tactical Soul System: you absorb abilities from defeated enemies, which grants you new attacks, stat boosts, or traversal powers like turning into a bat. Both games require careful exploration and backtracking as you gather key items, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush into unfamiliar rooms. Moving through these detailed castles, uncovering their secrets piece by piece, creates a satisfying and absorbing rhythm.
