About 007 - The World Is Not Enough (usa, Europe)
I picked up 007: The World Is Not Enough for the Game Boy Color back in 2001, a time when handheld games were really hitting their stride. It was developed by Eurocom and published by Nintendo, which was a solid pairing for a licensed title. This was one of the more ambitious attempts to bring a first-person shooter to the limited hardware, sitting alongside other action games of that portable generation.
You control James Bond through a series of missions viewed from a first-person perspective. Your main objective is to stop a terrorist plot, which involves moving through levels screen by screen, shooting guards, and completing specific goals like disarming bombs. The game uses a unique auto-aim system to help with targeting, and you frequently switch to different gadgets, such as your laser watch or a keycard decoder, to bypass obstacles. The pacing is methodical, requiring you to check corners and manage your limited ammo, and the difficulty can be sharp, especially during some of the tighter firefights. It feels like a thoughtful, condensed spy operation in your hands.
