Zootto Mahjong! is one of those SNES mahjong games that feels like it was made for late-night sessions when you just want something to zone out with. The tiles have that classic, slightly chunky 16-bit look, and the background music is weirdly soothing—like elevator music, but in a good way.
At first glance, it’s pretty standard Japanese mahjong—no crazy gimmicks or wild power-ups. But the controls are smooth, and the AI doesn’t feel cheap, which is more than I can say for some other retro mahjong games. If you’re new to riichi mahjong, the rules might take a minute to click, but once they do, it’s weirdly addictive. I kept telling myself “one more round” way too many times.
It’s not flashy, but if you’re into old-school mahjong or just want a chill SNES game that doesn’t demand lightning reflexes, this one’s a solid pick. The lack of an English patch means you’ll need to know some basic Japanese, though.
