Zombies Ate My Neighbors came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, developed by LucasArts. You control either Zeke or Julie, two teenagers armed with an ever changing arsenal of squirt guns, bazookas, and potions. Your main job is to dash through suburban backyards, shopping malls, and other themed levels to rescue your neighbors before monsters get them. The game progresses screen by screen, and you need to save at least one neighbor per stage to unlock the exit. You are constantly switching weapons to deal with different enemies, from vampires to giant demonic babies, while managing your limited resources. The pacing is relentless; you are always running, searching, and fending off attacks from all directions. It feels like a chaotic, hilarious scramble where every rescued neighbor is a small victory.
