If you grew up watching Yuu Yuu Hakusho, this SNES game is like stepping right back into the Spirit Detective world. You start off with Yusuke’s classic Spirit Gun, and yeah, it feels as satisfying as you’d hope—though Kuwabara’s sword swings take a second to get used to.
The fights are fast, almost too fast at first—demons don’t wait around, and neither do the bosses. The first time Hiei’s Dragon of the Darkness Flame actually connects? Pure hype. The sprites are chunky in that old-school SNES way, but the energy attacks pop with bright colors, just like the anime.
It’s not just button-mashing, either. Some enemies actually dodge if you spam the same move, so you’ve gotta mix it up. And if you’ve seen the show, you’ll recognize the stages—Dark Tournament vibes all over. Definitely one of those games where losing feels like your fault, not the game’s.
Still holds up if you’re into retro fighters, especially if you’ve got nostalgia for the series.
