About Young Merlin
Young Merlin came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Westwood Studios. It was part of that wave of action adventure games on the system, where you explored large worlds and solved puzzles. The game follows the wizard before he became famous, which was a different take on the usual Arthurian stories.
You control Merlin directly, moving him screen by screen across a big map. Your main goal is to stop an evil sorceress, which involves traveling through forests, castles, and dungeons. You use a mix of magic spells and a sword for combat, and a big part of the game is finding items and solving environmental puzzles to open new paths. The pacing is fairly slow, with a lot of backtracking and figuring out what to do next, and it can be difficult to know where you're supposed to go without some trial and error. Playing it feels like slowly piecing together a large, sometimes confusing, but ultimately satisfying picture.
