About Yamato Takeru
Yamato Takeru was a 1994 release for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System from the developer Jorudan. It arrived during a period when the SNES library was dense with action RPGs, and this game offered its own take on Japanese mythology. You step into the role of the legendary prince, navigating a world that blends exploration with overhead combat.
You control the prince directly, moving screen by screen through fields, towns, and multi-level dungeons. Your main goal is to defeat the demonic forces threatening the land, which involves seeking out eight sacred jewels. Combat uses your sword for close attacks and a bow for hitting distant enemies; you can also collect different elemental orbs that change your sword's properties. The pacing is deliberate, with some backtracking required, and the difficulty can be sharp in later dungeons. Playing it feels like a methodical journey through a challenging, mythic landscape.
