About World Soccer (japan)
World Soccer came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, published by Imagineer. It was one of the early soccer games on the console, arriving before the more famous international titles had established their formulas. You got a straightforward soccer simulation without the licensing deals that would later become standard.
You control a team of eleven players, switching between them to pass the ball and take shots on goal. The main objective is to outscore your opponent within the match time limit. The game uses an overhead perspective that shows a large portion of the field, and you have a power meter for shooting that determines the strength and height of your kick. Matches are fast, and the computer can be challenging, especially on higher difficulty settings where defenders close down space quickly. It feels like a genuine effort to translate the flow of a real match onto the 16-bit hardware.
