World League Soccer came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, developed by C-Lab. It was one of the earlier football games on the system, arriving before the more famous franchises had fully established their style. You control a team of eleven players, moving the entire squad up and down the pitch. The main objective is to score more goals than the opposing team within the match time. A couple of its mechanics stand out: the ability to perform sliding tackles to dispossess opponents, and a unique power bar for shooting that requires careful timing to keep the ball low and on target. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty comes from the aggressive computer opponents who challenge for every ball.
