World Heroes is one of those weird, janky SNES fighters that somehow works despite itself. You’ve got a roster of historical figures—like, actual Genghis Khan throwing down with ninjas and Hulk Hogan—which is ridiculous in the best way. The controls feel a little stiff compared to Street Fighter, but there’s something charming about the over-the-top special moves and cheesy voice samples.
Matches play out on these tiny, cramped stages, so you’re always right in each other’s faces. The Death Match mode is the real highlight, though—spikes, electric fences, and other hazards turn fights into pure chaos. It’s not the most polished fighter out there, but it’s got personality for days.
