World Class Rugby on SNES is one of those early sports games that somehow nails the chaos of rugby without getting too bogged down in realism. You pick from a handful of international teams (Japan’s in there, but good luck against the bigger squads), and the controls are simple enough—pass, kick, tackle—but matches get messy fast. The pixelated players pile up in scrums, and the ball bounces unpredictably, which honestly feels pretty true to actual rugby.
Graphics are basic, but the animations have charm, especially when someone breaks free for a long sprint down the field. Soundtrack’s forgettable, but the grunts and thuds of tackles make up for it. If you’re into retro sports games, this one’s a solid time-killer, even if it won’t dethrone your favorites.
