About World Class Rugby (europe)
World Class Rugby came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, published by Audiogenic. It was one of the earlier rugby games on the console, arriving at a time when sports sims were starting to find their footing in 16-bit.
You control a team of fifteen players, directing their movement and initiating tackles or passes. The main goal is to outscore your opponent by carrying the ball over the try line or kicking goals. Key mechanics include a tactical kicking game for gaining field position, set pieces like scrums and lineouts where you compete for possession, and managing your players' stamina. The pace is quick, and the difficulty can be steep if you are not familiar with rugby's rules. It feels like a challenging, hands-on simulation of the sport.
