Wayne Gretzky and the NHLPA All-Stars is one of those weird hockey games from the mid-90s where the NHL lockout meant no team names or logos—just Gretzky and a bunch of all-stars slapped into generic jerseys. It’s got that classic SNES hockey feel: fast, a little chaotic, and with just enough arcade-style checking to make it fun without being a full-on sim.
First thing you’ll notice? The rosters are stacked with legends, but good luck figuring out who’s who unless you recognize their numbers. The gameplay’s smooth though, and the overhead view keeps things readable even when it gets messy. Power plays feel brutal in the best way, and the AI actually puts up a fight—none of that "skate in circles until you score" nonsense.
It’s not NHL ‘94, but if you’re into retro hockey games, this one’s a solid time capsule of that era. Just don’t expect deep franchise modes or realism—it’s pure, slightly janky 16-bit hockey chaos.
