About Virtual Soccer (proto)
Virtual Soccer (Proto) came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Hudson Soft. It was one of many sports titles on the system, arriving before the genre became more standardized. You get a simple, no frills soccer game from that era.
You control a team of players on a field viewed from an isometric perspective. The main goal is to score more goals than the opposing team. You pass the ball between your players, sprint down the field, and take shots on goal. A notable mechanic is the ability to perform sliding tackles to dispossess opponents; another is the through pass, which sends the ball ahead into open space for a teammate to run onto. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty can be sharp, especially when the computer seizes on a mistake. It feels like a quick, arcade style match where a single moment can change everything.
