Okay, so Universal Soldier on SNES is one of those classic movie tie-ins that actually holds up better than you'd expect. You play as Luc Deveraux (or Andrew Scott if you pick the villain route), blasting through waves of enemies with a mix of guns, grenades, and some satisfyingly chunky melee attacks. The first level throws you right into a military base assault—no hand-holding, just run-and-gun chaos with explosions everywhere.
The controls feel surprisingly smooth for a 16-bit shooter, though jumping while shooting takes some getting used to. And those sprite animations? Way more detailed than most SNES action games—watch your character flip over obstacles or crumple when hit. Some levels drag a bit with repetitive enemies, but the boss fights (especially the helicopter showdown) make up for it. If you dig Contra or Turrican, this one’s a solid hidden gem. Just don’t expect the plot to make much sense if you haven’t seen the movie.
