Undercover Cops is one of those SNES beat 'em ups that feels like it crawled straight out of a gritty '90s arcade—because, well, it did. Irem nailed that grimy, urban brawler vibe where you’re punching through waves of thugs in alleys and construction sites. The sprites are chunky, the hits feel heavy, and there’s something satisfying about the way enemies crumple when you land a good combo.
You pick from three undercover cops (I always go for the dude with the red jacket—no idea why, just feels right), and the game throws everything at you: guys with pipes, knife-wielding maniacs, even weirdo bosses who look like they escaped from a cyberpunk fever dream. The music’s got that crunchy synth sound too, like someone recorded it through a busted speaker.
It’s not the deepest brawler out there, but if you’re into that raw, arcade-style chaos where you’re just mashing buttons and watching bodies fly, this one’s a blast. Just don’t expect a deep story—it’s all about the mayhem.
