Man, Uncharted Waters on SNES is one of those games that just swallows whole weekends. You start by picking one of six captains—I always went with the Portuguese guy because his trading bonuses made early game less brutal. Next thing you know, you're juggling cargo prices between Lisbon and Africa while praying a storm doesn't snap your mast in half.
The combat's janky but weirdly satisfying once you get the hang of broadsides. Pro tip: never trust the Dutch. They'll smile while selling you overpriced cannons, then turn around and blast you to splinters if you stray too close to their ports. And good luck explaining to your crew why you spent all their food money on silk that's now sinking to the bottom of the Mediterranean.
Half the fun is getting utterly lost because your navigation skills suck. That "uncharted" part of the title isn't just for show—I once accidentally looped the entire African coast thinking I'd found India. Still one of the best blends of RPG and strategy the 16-bit era ever coughed up.
