Ultraman - Towards The Future on SNES is one of those weirdly satisfying beat 'em ups where you just feel like a giant superhero. You start off punching alien grunts into oblivion, but the real fun kicks in when the screen zooms out and suddenly you're wrestling kaiju twice your size. The sprites are chunky in that classic 16-bit way, and the special moves—especially the beam attacks—have this weight to them that makes landing a hit stupidly satisfying.
It’s not the deepest fighter out there, but there’s something about the way Ultraman stumbles after a heavy hit or how the monsters ragdoll when you finally take them down that gives it charm. The music’s all dramatic horns and synth, like someone remixed a 90s tokusatsu soundtrack for a SNES sound chip. If you grew up with the show (or just love janky retro brawlers), this one’s a blast for a lazy afternoon. Just don’t expect it to reinvent the wheel.
