About Ultimate Football (japan)
Ultimate Football came out in 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Sammy Studios. It was one of many sports titles on the platform, arriving during a period when developers were still figuring out how to translate the flow of a real game into a 16-bit format.
You control a team of players on a side-scrolling field, moving the ball down the pitch by passing and dribbling past defenders. The main objective is to score more goals than your opponent before time runs out. Two mechanics that stand out are the ability to perform sliding tackles to dispossess opponents and the use of a power meter for shooting, which requires careful timing to aim your shots. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the computer opponents can be surprisingly aggressive, making it difficult to maintain possession.
