The player begins with a small group of settlers and basic resources in a colonial setting. Primary objectives involve managing these settlers, who can be assigned roles such as woodcutter, architect, or specialist. Woodcutters harvest timber, architects use materials like wood and stone to construct buildings, and specialists produce trade goods. Progression is tied to expanding the kingdom's infrastructure, which includes securing food production, mining minerals, and advancing through research. Players must also raise armies, as territorial expansion through conquest becomes necessary over time.

A central narrative task runs parallel to the kingdom management. Nine magical jewels are scattered across the land, and a key victory condition requires the retrieval of at least seven of these artifacts. This goal drives exploration and conflict, as players interact with neighboring factions through diplomacy while ultimately preparing for military campaigns to secure the jewels and dominate Genesia.
