Ultima VII on SNES is one of those RPGs that feels way ahead of its time—you start off just wandering Britannia, but before long, you're knee-deep in some seriously weird cult stuff. The Guardian’s creepy red face popping up everywhere still gives me chills.
What I love is how alive the world feels. You can pick up almost anything, talk to anyone, and the day-night cycle actually matters—shops close, people go home. First time I played, I got distracted for hours just stealing bread from bakeries and watching NPCs react. Classic Ultima weirdness.
Combat’s a bit clunky by modern standards, but the writing and sheer freedom make up for it. Just don’t expect the SNES version to be as deep as the PC original—still a solid way to experience one of the best RPGs of the ‘90s.
