Ultima VII on SNES is one of those RPGs that still feels massive even today. You start off investigating a murder—yeah, not your typical "chosen one" intro—and suddenly you're knee-deep in cults, political intrigue, and some seriously weird magic. The world reacts to everything you do, whether it's stealing cheese from a tavern or accidentally setting a house on fire with a misplaced spell.
What gets me is how alive Britannia feels. NPCs have their own schedules, shops open and close, and you can pick up almost anything that isn't nailed down (and some things that are). Combat's a bit clunky by modern standards, but the writing and sheer freedom make up for it. Just don't expect hand-holding—figuring out how to even bake bread had me scratching my head for way too long.
It's janky, ambitious, and still one of the most immersive RPGs ever made. If you can handle the SNES controls, it's worth losing a weekend to.
