Ultima: Runes of Virtue II came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, developed by Origin Systems. It was part of a wave of action RPGs on the console, a spinoff from the mainline Ultima computer games that tried to bring that kind of exploration to a simpler, more immediate format.

You control the Avatar from an overhead perspective, moving screen by screen through forests, towns, and multi-level dungeons. Your main goal is to find the eight Runes of Virtue, which are hidden across the world and guarded by bosses. You fight with a sword and can later find a bow for ranged attacks, managing your health and magic carefully. The dungeons are maze-like and require you to push blocks, avoid traps, and find keys to progress. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the difficulty comes from resource management and navigating its sometimes confusing layouts. It feels like a condensed, methodical adventure where every new screen could hide a secret or a sudden fight.
