About Ultima - Runes Of Virtue 2
Ultima: Runes of Virtue 2 came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed and published by Origin Systems. It was part of that wave of action RPGs on the SNES, sitting alongside other dungeon crawlers that tried to blend exploration with real time combat. The game is actually a sequel to a Game Boy title, but this version was built specifically for the home console.
You control the Avatar, moving screen by screen through a top down world. Your main goal is to rescue Lord Tholden from the Black Knight, which involves delving into a series of dungeons. You fight monsters in real time with a sword or a bow, and a key part of the game is searching for the Runes of Virtue hidden in each dungeon. The pacing is methodical; you explore each area thoroughly, push blocks to solve puzzles, and manage your health and keys carefully. It feels like a deliberate, sometimes challenging trek through a world that rewards patience and careful observation.
